Counseling for trauma using EMDR. Bolton Counseling Services in Murfreesboro, TN

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly evidenced-based treatment to help the brain process and heal from the negative effects of traumatic memories and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation through eye movement, hand tapping, or auditory stimulation to activate various parts of the brain to create new associations to distressing memories. It activates the same processes that occur during Rapid Eye Movement (REM) or dream sleep, but does so while the client is awake. Clients often experience relief in just a few sessions, regardless if the traumatic event occurred many years ago or yesterday. Click here to learn more from the EMDR Institute.

I have completed Basic Training as approved by the EMDR International Association. In my practice, bilateral stimulation is provided mainly through the use of tactile pulsers that you hold in your hands. I have seen many clients have success using EMDR therapy to heal from a wide variety of traumatic memories.
